Substance Misuse Recovery Worker
Permanent position, 37 hours per week
Location: Portsmouth Recovery Hub
Salary: £19,601 – £22,239 (Scale Range 19 – 23)
The Society of St James’ Recovery Hub offers a wide range of interventions including one to ones, therapeutic group work, needle exchange and prescribing interventions to people recovering from problems with drugs and alcohol who are living in Portsmouth. We offer an open door approach for people to come and access help and services when they are ready to make change or access interventions of harm minimisation. Services are delivered and integrated with Solent NHS.
The successful candidate will have experience of working with this client group and the complexities of substance use and addiction, knowledge of the impact of substance misuse on individuals, families and the wider community and be able to manage a caseload of clients safely and effectively. They will work in a person-centred approach to support individuals who want to make changes to their lives by supporting them to access interventions that are important to them. These include psychosocial group work and one to ones, medical interventions such as detox or opiate substitute prescriptions and good quality one to one interventions. Good risk management skills are essential, as is an ability to build strong and meaningful relationships with people and other agencies. This working ethic will enable SSJ to deliver our purpose to create engaging opportunities for growth and development for employees and our service user’s alike.
The role will be based at The Recovery Hub in Southsea but the work will involve visiting clients in other services or in their own homes. This will be on a needs basis, as appropriate, and you will work within a flexible 37 hour working week. Some out of hours work may be necessary in order respond to an individual’s needs.
Applicants will need to be self-reflective, motivated and able to work independently (often lone working) and as part of a team. A good background of working with people with substance misuse issues would be desirable; however, transferable skills from working with other disadvantaged groups/individuals will be considered. Prior to interview, we would expect candidates to be aware of the issues that this client group presents with and have a good knowledge of interventions, resources and agencies that are available.

Have a good background of assessing people’s needs and risks, reflective thinking, keeping accurate records and direct experience of working effectively with other agencies to advocate and support the client’s needs.
