Well, what a year it has been so far. It only seems like yesterday that we were all planning for Christmas, anticipating what may happen during the festive period; and now we are all looking toward Spring and Summer and thinking about what might lay ahead for the brighter evenings ahead.
2022 is a special year for SSJ – we’ve been supporting people affected by homelessness for 50 years – and since then have gone on to specialise in Drug and Alcohol Services, we manage two care homes in Southampton, we have had award winning partnerships with businesses like The Southern Co-op – and now sit here in 2022 looking at even more opportunities opening to help us tackle homelessness.
Fundraising is an important part of our strategy; giving us the chance to raise money which directly supports individuals on their journey towards independence. Every year we provide support to help our service user access vital equipment, ID, clothing for interviews and more – which means that supporting us directly benefits those who have often come to us with nothing but the clothes on their back.
Gary, who raised money for SSJ in 2020 said: “I wanted to help a local charity that helps people who need it the most – and I decided to choose the Society because I had conversations with them and learned about the work they do and it made me think about how lucky I am. After I raised the money I had more conversations with them and felt like they really appreciated that we had raised money for them. I’m going to do a bike ride in 2022 and will be supporting SSJ again.”
There are plenty of ways to fundraise for SSJ – you could run your own event, challenge friends or family in an activity, games nights and even quizzes – and with the spring evenings on the horizon, why not start planning activities for the warmer evenings and use that time to support people without a home?
What can you do to help us celebrate our 50th anniversary?
By supporting is in 2022, you’ll directly impact the lives of people without a home. Whether you decide to run, swim, write, or quiz; your support will benefit people who are looking to take the next step towards independence in their lives.
