World Homeless Day 2020

World Homeless Day is all about drawing attention to the needs of the most vulnerable people locally.

We have all seen the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable people across Hampshire – on top of the issues they already face day-to-day. World Homeless Day gives us a chance to reflect on how those less fortunate than ourselves have been affected by the COVID-19 situation.

With less than a month to go till WHD, we are asking our supporters to help share some of the stories we’ve posted during the past 12 months to help share news about the work we are doing to end homelessness. You can find those stories HERE.

We have some suggestions on how you can raise money for SSJ if you want to go a little further, like Sean Whelan has, with his incredible fundraising effort which raised over £2,000 for SSJ.

  • Walking Together: Commit to raising money walking a set distance each day and ask friends to join you via ‘socially distanced’ walks as you all log in to Zoom/Skype and chat as you walk. You can ask other friends and family on social media to sponsor this.
  • Run 10k in October: Why not challenge yourself to run 10k during October. World Homelessness Day takes place on the 10th day of the 10th month, so it is the perfect way to raise money for SSJ.
  • Quiz with Friends: One of the most popular ways to catch up with friends this year has been via online quizzes. Why not do host a quiz to raise money for SSJ this October?

Have a go at a little quiz we have put together by clicking here.

Most people have over 100 friends on Facebook and this can be a unique way to raise money. 100 friends donating as little as £2 each will raise £200 for SSJ! Money raised during this event will go towards personal budgets, including ID, bus passes and clothing to wear to job interviews for those moving on from homelessness.
