Accommodation (Managed by The Society of St James as Principal Housing Partner):

The pathway provides access to more than 100 bed spaces distributed across the city, offering a vital foundation for individuals in need of safe and stable accommodation. As the principal housing partner, the Society of St. James plays a central and proactive role in both the management and ongoing development of these housing provisions. Their responsibilities extend beyond simply supplying accommodation; they ensure that each placement is appropriate, sustainable, and tailored to meet the varying needs of individuals accessing the service.

Through a combination of careful allocation, ongoing support, and close partnership working, the Society of St. James helps to create an environment where residents can begin to rebuild stability in their lives. The accommodation is designed not only to provide immediate relief from housing insecurity but also to act as a stepping stone toward longer-term independence. By maintaining a strong focus on quality, suitability, and progression, the pathway aims to empower individuals to make positive, lasting moves into more independent living arrangements.

Partnership Approach: The pathway is a collaborative effort, involving various agencies, voluntary groups, and individuals with lived experience of homelessness. The Society of St James is a key and central partner in this multi-agency approach, particularly in providing housing solutions.

Outreach Services: Council outreach teams actively seek out and engage with individuals sleeping rough, connecting them with the support available through the pathway, including the accommodation managed by the Society of St James.

Prevention: The strategy focuses on preventing homelessness in the first place, by addressing the root causes and providing early intervention. The comprehensive support services contribute significantly to this preventative approach.

How to Access the Pathway:

Ending Rough Sleeping: The overarching aim is to ensure that rough sleeping is rare, brief, and non-recurring in Portsmouth. This is a goal strongly supported by The Society of St James, in providing secure and safe housing.
