Tackling Homelessness in Rushmoor

Homelessness service, Rushmoor

The Society of St James works in partnership with Rushmoor council to create a hostel and move on housing in the borough.  We house and support both men and women across the two properties, with the provision tailored to the needs of the individual.

The support is tailored to meet the individual needs of each resident. We aim to help residents reduce any substance use and/or associated offending behaviour, feel stable and able to have a fulfilling life. The length
of stay in the service is variable depending on each person’s specific needs, but our aim is to help people achieve the changes they seek in their lives within one year and help them to move into their own long-term home.

Tackling Homelessness in Rushmoor

Rushmoor homelessness service, opening door of house

Our 8 bed project is supported seven days a week and staff are available to offer advice and create support plans and move on goals for each resident. We also have an out of hours support service to ensure the safety of each resident and to be on hand should any serious incidents or emergencies occur.

Opportunities to take part in positive activities and educational sessions such as a weekly motivational therapy group and 1-1 sessions looking at strengths based work. There are also opportunities for people to access volunteering and work placements that help them develop their life skills in readiness for their eventual move back into independent living. Referrals to the service are through Rushmoor Borough Council, Inclusion and other housing providers.

The Society of St James operates services across Hampshire. Including Southampton, Portsmouth and Rushmoor. The ultimate aim is to prevent, relieve and end homlessness locally in those areas we operate in. At SSJ we provide high quality person-centered support and guidance. We understand people need efficient pathways after social exclusion, and want stability and ultimately sustainable change.
