Work Placements and Volunteer Opportunities

Local businesses can really help to improve the lives and the futures of people affected by homelessness and other problems by offering opportunities to undertake work placements and volunteering placements.

Our experience shows that the majority of people who we support have had successful lives and jobs before their circumstances changed. A key focus for us in supporting people back into successful independent living is to help them regain their confidence and skills to help them back into the world of work.

Our service users tell us how rewarding and fulfilling it is for them when they can access opportunities to help them develop work-related skills so that they can look forward to a fulfilling life when they are ready to move on. We offer a wide range of volunteer opportunities in our own services, which have changed many peoples’ lives for the better, and we know how rewarding this is, not just for our service users, but also for our staff who play a part in helping people learn new skills.

We are currently working in partnership with Premier Inn, SLG Decor in Portsmouth and Greggs to offer voluntary work placements, resulting in permanent employment for some people.

If you think you would be able to offer work placements or volunteering opportunities in your business please contact us at fundraising@ssj.org.uk and we’ll be happy to work with you.

One off donation

£12 could go towards providing essential items like toiletries, towels and a change of clothes for someone moving from rough sleeping into a hostel.

£25 could go towards providing a bus ticket and interview attire for someone to attend a job interview, giving them the opportunity to secure employment and rebuild their life.

Just £20

a month could help us provide a wide variety of activities, accredited courses and volunteering opportunities so that people can explore their strengths. This is vital to helping secure a route into employment, and ultimately in sustaining a tenancy.

Just £50

a month could go towards helping someone furnish and decorate their first ever home. Giving people this choice is central to recovering from years of trauma and essential to building the stability necessary to sustain a tenancy.

Just £100

a month could go towards providing ongoing support to someone seeking a safe and secure privately rented home, including assistance with finding a reputable landlord, navigating tenancy agreements, and setting up essential utilities.
